Cotswolds Steam Railway Day Trip (M)
Cotswolds Steam Railway Day Trip (M)

  • Enjoy a hearty Ploughman’s 'brunch' in the shadow of the infamous 12th century Tewkesbury Abbey
  • A two hour return journey through the Cotswolds on a wonderfully restored steam locomotive passing through one of the longest tunnels on a British heritage railway
  • Views of Tewkesbury Abbey, the Avon Valley, as well as the Bredon and Dumbleton Hills

Join your coach this morning as we head for the attractive market town of Tewkesbury. Famous of course for it's splendid, ancient Abbey but also rather famous for the lovely food served in its tea rooms. We've arranged for a local tea rooms to prepare a ploughman's 'brunch' with plenty of tea and coffee.

After 'brunch' we go to Cheltenham Racecourse Train Station. Here we board a beautifully restored steam locomotive which meanders through the breathtaking Cotswolds countryside. You will first pass the historic Bishop’s Cleeve where Benedictine monks settled and built a priory. However this was destroyed and the land later used by the Bishop of Worcester to build a magnificent summer palace which still remains. From here you should be able to see Cleeve Cloud which is the highest point in the Cotswolds standing at an impressive 1083ft.

You will then pass the Severn Vale and the Avon Valley plains and on a clear day you can even see Hay Bluff. The first live station on the British heritage railway is Gotherington which the train stops at. You may even be able to see Tewkesbury and it’s abbey again from the carriage. There are then further exhilarating views of the Bredon and Dumbleton Hills. We will then be passing through the Greet Tunnel which is one of the longest tunnels on a British heritage railway at 693 yards.

A stop at Winchcombe Station before passing over the River Isbourne and astounding views of Sudeley Castle and the remains of Hailes Abbey. Your final stop on this leg is Toddington Station. You'll have about half an hour free time here (gift shop, refreshments, small museum) before we climb aboard again for our trip back to Cheltenham - giving you the opportunity to glimpse any of the sights you missed on the way.

Your coach will be waiting at Cheltenham to take you home.
