It seems the romance of steam trains and the beauty of the highlands are inextricably linked and on this holiday, you’ll enjoy the many pleasures of both
DAY 1: A leisurely drive north – into Scotland where we enjoy a comfortable overnight stay at The Erskine Bridge hotel near Glasgow.
DAY 2: We are right into the beautiful scenery this morning as drive alongside Loch Lomond, stopping for a while in the pretty village of Luss. We continue through the highlands, past Loch Leven to Fort William where we stay for 4 nights at the Alexandra Hotel.
DAY 3: We board ‘The Jacobite’ one of the world’s most famous steam trains for the journey to Mallaig. The line takes us over Glenfinnan Viaduct (of Harry Potter fame).
DAY 4: Today is free so you can relax and explore Fort William.
DAY 5: We travel into the Spey Valley. From Aviemore we enjoy our 2nd steam train ride along the Spey to Broomhill where we re-join our coach to Inverness for some free time here before heading back – alongside Loch Ness to our hotel in Fort William.
DAY 6: We leave Fort William today for our hotel in Falkirk. On the way we stop at Killin and the magical Falls of Dochart and have some free time in the proud city of Stirling
We stay at the Park hotel, Falkirk for 2 nights
DAY 7: Our 3rd and last steam train today as we travel on the Strathspey Railway from Bo’Ness to Manuel and afterwards, spend some free time in Edinburgh.
DAY 8: Leaving our hotel after breakfast, we travel home.
