Day 1: We arrive this afternoon at the Moorland Hotel near the hamlet of Haytor in the beautiful Dartmoor National Park. There’ll be a drinks reception before dinner, and entertainment afterwards.
Day 2: After breakfast we visit the fascinating Morwellham Quay, an award-winning attraction featuring an historic port, village, copper mine and railway. You can take a ride on the train into the mine, watch a blacksmith and potter at work, visit the Edwardian farm, and lots more!
Later, we drop into the infamous Dartmoor Prison to learn about life inside one of the world’s most notorious jails.
Day 3: Today we visit the interesting House of Marbles, where we can see some skilled glass-making craftsmen at work as well as some fascinating exhibits.
Afterwards we head to the Moretonhampstead Motor Museum, a collection of over 130 historic vehicles, from pre-1920s to the 1990s. Housed in a newly refurbished bus depot, the collection includes a selection of motoring artefacts and automobilia.
Day 4: On day 4 we have a morning visit to the lovely Buckland Abbey. Part museum, part house, the Abbey is filled with treasures such as the legendary Drake’s Drum - a snare drum Sir Francis Drake took with him when he circumnavigated the world.
Please note: When Buckland Abbey is closed we will visit Buckfast Abbey instead.
Later we head back to the hotel for afternoon refreshments.
Day 5: Homeward bound after a last, hearty breakfast.
