Day 1: We arrive at our hotel by the Lake on the outskirts of the Cambridge city this afternoon for 4 nights.
Day 2: 17 miles north of Cambridge is Ely – England’s 2nd smallest city. First, we visit the gorgeous Ely Cathedral, where we will be treated to a special tour of this majestic building.
Next stop is Oliver Cromwell’s House. One of the most divisive individuals in British history, spent a decade of his life living in the city, and his former family home has been lovingly restored. Experience what domestic life would have been like in the 17th century in a variety of re-created period rooms as well as viewing an exhibition about the English Civil War.
Rounding off our day we pop into quaint Granchester village (Yes, the one on TV) and have a Cambridgeshire cream tea (is there such a thing?)
Day 3: First stop today is the amazing Imperial War Museum at Duxford. Best of its kind in the country with over 200 craft to gob-smack you, including B-52, Concorde, Spitfire, Lancaster…the list goes on.
This afternoon sees us at the Wimpole Estate and glorious gardens with its main attraction – magnificent Mansion – Wimpole Hall where intimate rooms contrast with beautiful Georgian interiors, including Soane's breathtaking Yellow Drawing Room and wonderful plunge bath.
Day 4: Into Cambridge city centre we go and a local guide gives us a fascinating walking tour of the prestigious Cambridge University, which has many a beautiful college building (Take a selfie and tell everyone it’s your old college).
Day 5: We’ve well and truly worn the T-shirt (worn it out) so it’s time to head for home
