Day 1: We head south to Folkestone and then to Calais via the Eurotunnel. Once in Calais it is around 1½ hours’ drive to Ostend in Belgium.
Ostend has a distinct British seaside vibe with a long, wide promenade lined with hotels and cafés. The pedestrianised town centre is busy with shops of all kinds, restaurants, bars, and hotels.
Day 2: Today we visit Ghent - one of Belgium’s most lovely cities and one of Europe’s best kept secrets. You will enjoy plenty of free time here to explore the many tourist sights and appreciate the beautiful architecture and swish shops. An open-top bus ride is a particularly good way of seeing the best of Ghent
Day 3: A poignant but important and fascinating experience today as we we head over the French border to the town of Dunkirk, famous of course for being the main site of the evacuation of Allied troops in June 1940 during the Second World War. Our expert guide will sensitively portray the events and reveal the main sites of ‘Operation Dynamo’
This afternoon, we call into the lovely town of Ypres in the Province of West Flanders. You’ll have time for dinner here before we experience the poignant, nightly ritual at the famous Menin Gate where Buglers sound the last post at 8pm.
Returning to our hotel around 9:30pm
Day 4: Most of today is spent in gorgeous Bruges, undoubtedly one of Europe’s most picturesque old cities full of quaint streets lined with Dickensian type shops selling Chocolate, lace, and curiosities. A wonderful way to see the town is from one of the frequent boat trips on its famous winding waterways.
