Bala Lake Steam Railway Day Trip (D)

A fantastic Steam Rail journey along Bala Lake followed by a lovely meal in the quaint Betws Y Coed...

Join your coach as you head for Llanuwchllyn and the Bala Lake Railway. You will board a wonderfully refurbished steam locomotive in the small village of Llanuwchllyn and follow the shores of Lake Bala until you reach the edge of Bala town itself.

During your journey you will follow the shores of Lake Bala which is the largest natural lake in Wales. You will be taken through the southern Snowdonia countryside which will give you unbeatable views across the lake towards the Arenig and Aran mountains before being returned to Llanuwchllyn an hour later.

Your coach will be waiting to take you on to Betws y Coed and the picturesque Royal Oak hotel. This is a magnificent former Coaching Inn that combines its Victorian heritage with a contemporary feel and modern facilities. Here they will provide you with a lovely fish and chip lunch followed by sponge and tea or coffee.

You then have a few hours to explore one of Snowdonia’s honeypot sites attracting masses of tourists due to its prime location and beautiful surroundings. It contains ancient architecture including St. Michaels church from which the village takes its name “Betws” which means “prayer house”. There is also the Waterloo Bridge built by Thomas Telford and the Pont-y-Pair bridge built in 1468. There is also a beautiful village green, a railway museum and numerous shops to explore.

After a few hours here your coach will be waiting to take you home.
