Day 1: We arrive at our hotel in Street this afternoon for 4 nights.
Day 2: We head to Wells – England’s smallest city, with a magnificent medieval town centre.
While you are here you may want to visit the Bishop’s Palace, one of Somerset’s most ancient buildings and home to the Bishop of Bath and Wells for over 800 years. The gardens of the Palace are a treat in their own right, and the architecturally-stunning Cathedral is just a stone’s throw away.
On the way back we pass through Cheddar Gorge – the geological wonder in the Mendip Hills.
Day 3: We visit Taunton – the county town of Somerset. Do look out for Bath Place - a Hidden gem just off the main high street. An alley way takes you into another world away from the hustle and bustle, you step back into a quiet, charming and artisan place with a parade of lovely shops and places to get refreshments. It's mostly all grade 1 or 2 listed old buildings so worth visiting just to look around.
This afternoon it’s scrumpy time at Sheppy’s – one of Somerset’s oldest cider-makers.
Day 4: We take a nostalgic ride by steam through lovely countryside from Bishops Lydeard to Dunster on the West Somerset Railway (the longest heritage line in the UK). After some free time in this charming medieval village we head back to our hotel.
Day 5: Our time in the timeless charm of Somerset is up. A last hearty breakfast and we head for home.
