Scotland's Great Rail Journeys (D)

Sit back, relax and enjoy the scenery on this trip to experience three of the most spectacular train journeys in Scotland.

• The beautiful Kyle Line, from Inverness to the Kyle of Lochalsh. The Kyle Line draws a wide arc from Inverness to the shores of Loch Alsh, taking in spectacular Highland scenery in the shadows of mountains and forests, beside bright lochs and wide-open moors – and finishing with magnificent views of Skye.

• The Strathspey Railway from Aviemore to Broomhill. This heritage railway welcomes you aboard vintage carriages hauled by lovingly restored locomotives. Expect masses of rugged scenery.

• The renowned West Highland Line from *Fort William to Mallaig – one of the most beautiful rail lines in the world, which takes you through gorgeous scenery and over the curved Glenfinnan Viaduct (famous for its role in the Harry Potter films). *Coach passengers have a 50/50 split – Fort William to Mallaig or Mallaig to Fort William.

Day 1: A leisurely drive north to Scotland where we break our journey with an overnight stop in Irvine.

Day 2: With some pleasant stops on the way we’ll arrive at our main hotel this afternoon.

Day 3 to 5: In addition to the wonderful train trips, interesting visits and stops are included;

• Time on the Isle of Skye (before or after the Kyle Line)
• The Highland Folk Museum (with the Strathspey Railway)
• Bonnie Prince Charlie’s monument at Loch Shiel and Neptune’s Staircase (with The West Highland Line, time permitting)

Day 6: We leave for home after breakfast.
