Every year, the grandeur of Basildon Park in Berkshire is transformed into a magical Christmas spectacle. This elegant Georgian mansion, managed by the National Trust, comes alive with twinkling lights, festive foliage, and historic charm, offering visitors a heartwarming glimpse into Christmases past.
As you step through the grand entrance hall, you're greeted by the scent of pine and the gentle glow of candles and fairy lights. Each room is thoughtfully decorated with period-appropriate trimmings, from lavish garlands draped over marble fireplaces to traditional paper decorations and glittering baubles that reflect the light from chandeliers above.
One of the highlights is the drawing room, where a beautifully adorned Christmas tree takes centre stage, surrounded by vintage toys and wrapped parcels, evoking the excitement of a bygone Christmas morning. The dining room is also a festive feast for the eyes, set as though the family were about to sit down for a grand holiday meal, complete with crystal glasses, silver cutlery, and handmade crackers.
