Cardiff, the Welsh capital, is a city rich in history yet full of modern energy. From the striking presence of Cardiff Castle in the heart of the city to the rejuvenated waterfront at Cardiff Bay, visitors can enjoy a mix of culture, shopping, and leisurely strolls. Museums, galleries, and welcoming cafés make it easy to explore at your own pace.
Just beyond the city lies the Vale of Glamorgan, a hidden gem known for its rolling countryside, charming villages, and dramatic coastline. Here, you’ll find peaceful seaside towns, historic landmarks, and breathtaking views over the Bristol Channel. It’s the perfect contrast to the city—offering space to unwind, breathe in the fresh sea air, and enjoy Wales at its most picturesque.
Together, Cardiff and the Vale of Glamorgan create a wonderfully balanced destination—where culture meets coast, and every day brings something new to discover.
Day 1: We arrive at our hotel in Cardiff this afternoon.
Day 2: A day in the beautiful Vale of Glamorgan. Our day begins with a gentle drive west from Cardiff into the beautiful Vale countryside, arriving in the charming market town of Cowbridge.
Take time to stroll along its historic high street, known for independent shops, traditional bakeries, and inviting cafés. It’s a lovely spot for a morning coffee and a relaxed wander before continuing your journey.
From Cowbridge, enjoy a picturesque drive south towards the coast, arriving at Ogmore-by-Sea and from here, a short drive along the coast brings you to Southerndown, home to dramatic cliffs and the beautiful Dunraven Bay.
This is one of the most scenic roads along the Glamorgan Heritage Coast—perfect for photos or a breath of fresh air whilst overlooking the Bristol Channel.
Our coastal loop continues west to the seaside town of Porthcawl. Here there’s time for lunch, with a choice of traditional cafés, seafront restaurants, or classic fish and chips by the promenade. After lunch, enjoy a gentle walk along the harbour or take in the views across the water.
After lunch, we make our way back towards Cardiff, taking a slightly inland route through the rolling countryside of the Vale of Glamorgan.
Sit back and enjoy the changing scenery—green fields, stone villages, and glimpses of the coast—as you complete a relaxed circular tour.
This itinerary offers a perfect balance of quaint towns, coastal beauty, and unhurried exploration—ideal for a comfortable and memorable day out.
Day 3: Let’s do Cardiff. The very best way to see this city and some surrounding areas is in the company of a renowned expert guide and so we’ve booked one of the best. Look forward to an exciting, informative and humorous day with Steve Griffin or one of his equally talented colleagues.
Day 4: A visit to St Fagans named after the village where it is located (30 mins from Cardiff) is a fascinating open-air museum (often cited as one of the best in Britain) chronicling the historical lifestyle, culture, and architecture of the Welsh people.
