Castle Howard at Christmas (A)

Day 1: We arrive at our hotel in Harrogate this afternoon.
Check-in and settle into your ensuite room, relax after your journey or time permitting, perhaps have a look around the town centre before dinner this evening.
Enjoy a relaxed evening after dinner – why not treat yourself to a tipple or two in the hotel bar or kick off your shoes in your comfortable bedroom and treat yourself to room service.

Day 2 Monday: Rise to a hearty breakfast (or something lighter – there’s lots of choice) then we board the coach and set out to Castle Howard which is about an hour away and we should arrive soon after opening.  Home to the Howard family for over 300 years, Castle Howard is one of England's grandest Baroque mansions.  It’s a joy to visit any time of year with its dramatic interiors containing world-famous collections, and listen to the friendly guides as they share their detailed knowledge and relate the many and varied stories of previous generations.  It’s even more splendid when it’s decked out for Christmas!  With rooms lit by roaring fires and candlelight, this is a magical time to explore this fine historic house.  See the dramatic Castle-like rooms transformed with giant Christmas trees, traditional decorations and brilliant displays chosen by the Howard family. There’s usually live music and Carols too.  If you’re peckish for lunch, you’ll find lovely home-cooked festive food and lots more in the restaurant and do see the gift shop - for a fantastic range of decorations you can purchase. 
All good things must come to and end as they say, and we normally aim to leave about half past two - so we can get you home without it being too late.
