Day 1: On arrival in Lincoln the coach will set down at the ‘top’ of the town in an area known as Bailgate. This is the most historic area and you’ll find lots of independent, quirky shops and cosy tea rooms in the cobbled streets and the most famous Street in the City – ‘Steep Hill’ which leads down to the lower part of the town.
Do visit the Cathedral while you are here. The exterior is impressive – it was the tallest building in the world for over 200 years during the medieval period. Inside it’s as magnificent as it is ancient.
At the opposite end of Bailgate you’ll see the Castle. Again, well worth a visit if you have time. Within the impenetrable stone walls lies one of only four remaining original copies of the Magna Carta. Your chance to see an important piece of English history.
Meet back to the coach at 4:30pm and we’ll go to our hotel to check in for a comfortable evening.
Day 2: Enjoy a leisurely breakfast and then some more free time in Lincoln. The hotel is in the lower part of town at one end the High Street so just a short walk from the hotel will let you explore a different part of the city this morning.
We leave Lincoln around 12:30pm and start to make our way home. About an hour into our journey, we stop in Sherwood Forest. We set down at the Visitor centre near Edwinstowe village. You can get refreshments here and something to eat if you wish and within a 10 minute walk you will find the world-famous Major Oak, still producing acorns after standing at the heart of the forest for an estimated 800 years!
Price pp based on 2 sharing includes: 1 x night B&B basis. Single supplement applies.
We stay at the Holiday Inn Lincoln set on trendy Brayford Waterfront, a short walk from Lincoln’s historic centre.
Settle into your modern Guest room with views of the Waterfront or Lincoln Castle and Cathedral and relax on the Lobby bar’s decked terrace as boats drift by on the river Witham.
Breakfast is served in the hotel’s bright and airy first-floor restaurant with river views through floor to ceiling windows.
The hotel has a dinner menu if you want to eat in and you’ll also find several options near the hotel including: Nando’s, Brayford View, Brayford Wharf, Horse and Groom and The Barge.
